Dennis, 18
‘For as long as I can remember I've been interested in cars’
Dennis was born and raised in Brixton. He attended Primary School and Secondary School locally. He first developed an interest in car mechanics while on work experience at a garage two years ago.
"For as long as I can remember I’ve been interested in all kinds of cars from classic to high performance modern vehicles – but now my interest has grown to how they work," he said.
"I learnt a few basics during a work experience placement and know how to change brake pads, check tyres, and even changed the clutch on my sister’s car. But I want to learn more and get some formal training and qualifications."
"Lambeth Council’s Connexions Service has been brilliant in helping me discover how to do this. They have researched training opportunities, and provided CV and interview advice. They have given me a focus on how I can get onto this career path – a focus I might not have without them."

The service, based in Acre Lane, has ensured that young leaving Lambeth secondary schools are now more likely to progress to education or training than pupils in any other Inner London Authority.
