About Accreditation
What is Accreditation?
Accreditation is a way of formally recognising young people’s achievement through nationally recognised assessments which are accepted by educational institutions and employers.
Accreditation is delivered through joint partnerships of young people (through their commitment and engagement); their youth support workers (assessing activities and skills) and the Youth Support Service (linking to award bodies, moderating, training and supporting staff).
Why Accredit?
Young people gain significant knowledge, skills and experience through the wide range of activities and experiences available through our integrated Youth Support Services. Accreditation shows the skills and levels they have achieved and helps them to prove this, if they need to. It is an option that many young people want to have.
The value of Accreditation to young people
Accreditation is valuable for all young people.
- For those who have succeeded less well at school it provides an alternative way to show their knowledge, skills and experience and can give a sense of achievement and increase personal motivation.
- For young people aiming for higher education it gives valuable evidence of achievement for their UCAS personal statement.
- For young people applying for apprenticeships or work, accreditation can illustrate to employers the breadth and depth of experience that they will bring to the workplace. Accreditation recognises skill-development, rewards effort and raises self-esteem
How do young people become involved?
Young people or their parents/carers should ask their youth support workers for more information, or contact www.younglambeth.org for information on the youth clubs and programmes running the Accreditation Programme.
Youth support workers should contact the Lambeth Youth Support Service for further information.
