Lambeth Accreditation Framework

As a key element of the 2010 Lambeth Youth Strategy, the Lambeth Youth Accreditation Framework has been developed. This build on the accreditation that has been delivered by voluntary and council agencies for many years, providing a wider curriculum for a broader range of key agencies, supported by a central infrastructure.

Lambeth’s Commitment to Accreditation

“Lambeth’s young people want to spent their spare time usefully and productively to gain the skills for their success and to progress to further skills as a result.

They also want to spend their time more leisurely, e.g. using the internet for social networking. We aim to help them do both through a wider and vibrant programme of activities, and a borough-wide framework of accreditation for youth activities to celebrate young people’s achievement.”

The Lambeth Youth Accreditation Programme

The Lambeth Youth Accreditation Programme will provide;

  • a wide range of specific accreditation units to match the Lambeth Young People’s programme areas of sports, arts, skills, health and engagement
  • pathways of accreditation to enable young people to be ambitious, building on previous achievements and reaching further through four levels:
    • introduction level
    • intermediate level
    • advanced level
    • specialist level
  • Accreditation units for programmes within the framework for Aiming Higher for Disabled Children
  • Accreditation units for programmes for Looked After Children and young people leaving care
  • A network of local accreditation hubs in major voluntary and council youth clubs and programmes through which accreditation and/or support is accessed
  • Trained and supported Accreditation Champions to provide advice and support on the programme delivery and assessment relevant to each award scheme
  • Signposting for advice or referrals to specialist sport and arts providers with independently delivered specialist accreditation
  • Centrally-commissioned accredited support services which link with national award bodies to provide staff training, oversee the assessment process, arrange for external and internal moderation, support recording and reporting, and support celebration programmes.

The programme includes a funded allocation of awards, which will delivered through a network of Accreditation Hubs. The awards included are as follows:

  • AQA Unit Award Scheme
  • Sports Leader Awards and Qualifications
  • Youth Arts Award
  • Youth Achievement Award
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
  • Vinspired Awards

The Hub Model

To ensure there is sufficient expertise and support available to support accreditation, a network of local hubs will be established to provide a lead for each award scheme in the programme. Through expressions of interest and subsequent negotiation, the Youth Support Service will seek the involvement of a range of council and voluntary sector agencies to form the central programme, each with an agreed programme with specific volumes of young people to be supported. The Accreditation Hubs will be confirmed by the Autumn.
