Lambeth’s Deputy Youth Mayor, Emmanuel Adepoju, and Deputy Member of Youth Parliament, Ify Ossai, both attended a People’s Question Time event at the O2 Brixton Academy yesterday to hear the views of Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.

The event, which was attended by hundreds of people from right across South London, was hosted by Valerie Shawcross, London Assembly Member for Lambeth and Southwark, and touched on subjects ranging from Crime & Safety, to the Olympics, and opportunities for young people.

One group of young people in the audience came from Offley Works near the Oval in SW9. Offley Works is a social enterprise which combines youth projects such as Starlight Music Academy, Urban Jazz Radio, and Sir Coxone Music Works. The site is under threat of closure as the Mayor wishes to sell the land it is built on to raise money for youth projects elsewhere.

Ify said: “The event was a great opportunity to hear the Mayor of London speak first hand.  He got a mixed reception from the crowd, but spoke on a lot of issues affecting young people, including apprenticeship and job opportunities, cycling and public transport, and gun and knife crime.  It was great to see the London Assembly taking their message out to the people.”
